Edit your genre fiction novel with me!
Feb. 27, 12 – 1:30 pm at the Greenwood Branch of the Seattle Public Library
I’m excited to announce that I’ll be teaching an interactive writing workshop called “Dialog Diagnosis” at the Greenwood branch of the Seattle Public Library.
Join me on Saturday, February 27 from noon to 1:30 and bring ten to fifteen pages of your work in progress – preferably from Chapter 3 or 4, so we can work on a part you haven’t already edited a dozen times.
I’ll guide participants through the dialog revision techniques that I’ve developed from years of workshops and trial-and-error. Deep, purposeful analysis of dialog often reveals hidden weaknesses in pacing, conflict and character development.
This workshop is targeted for writers who wonder what to do next with their NaNoWriMo project, people who have a finished (or mostly finished) genre fiction novel and want to begin editing, or established writers interested in trying something different.

Do we need printed pages or are e-pages OK?
Hi Shirley – You’ll get much more out of doing it on your own printed pages – I won’t make anyone share!
I recommend 1.5 line spacing, which gives more per page but still leaves *some* space for notes. I’m bringing lots of FUN office supplies for everyone to use on their own pages, and I really believe, based on all the brain-science books I read in order to write a hero with traumatic brain injury, that our minds process things that come out of our hands differently from things we see or interact with on a screen. Also, there’s an element of lining up several pages and stepping back from them to see patterns across a whole scene that we can’t really see on the screen. So – paper!
Thanks Anna,I will keep that in mind if I decide to join you. I don’t have a printer hooked up right now so I would have to overcome that. But I’ve been thinking about doing that anyway. Cheers!
